Riverbend
Golf Course
is Salt Lake
County owned
and operated
public golf
course, but
this course
is another
one of
Northern Utah's
excellent
courses and
is not a
typical
municipal
golf course.
Built in 1993 by Gene Bates, a well known Utah golf course designer and
recent
recipient of
the 2004
Architect of
the Year
award, this
design is
one of Gene's
earlier
creations
and features
two superbly
different
nines.
The front nine is relatively flat with large Sahara-desert like bunkers
and
challenging
greens, and
two pesky
lakes in
play on a
few of the
holes.
The back nine starts with the spectacular par-4 tenth with a stunning
elevated tee
looking
directly
into the
Wasatch
Mountains
and the
fairway 100
feet below.
The inward
nine winds
through
native
wetlands and
the Jordan
River is in
play on many
holes. The
course is
not
incredibly
long for
today's
newer design
standards
but
Riverbend
Golf Club
continues to
be one of
Slat Lake
County's
finest
courses and
one Utah's
excellent
golf
treasures. |
