If you
have trouble hitting it close from a greenside bunker, I
have a few easy tips to get you yelling, “get in the
bunker” in no time.
Our
objective is to get the ball out of the bunker first and
foremost. In order to do this we must remove sand
behind, underneath, and in front of the ball. Holding
the shaft in your right hand, dial the face open by
turning it to the right. The reason for this is to
expose the bounce angle of the club. The bounce angle
is the area between the leading and trailing edge of the
club. The bounce will allow us to blast the sand onto
the green
With face
dialed slightly open, take your normal full swing grip.
Open your stance and shoulders by pulling your left foot
back. Lean your weight back and blast the sand behind,
underneath and in front of the ball, your goal is to get
the sand on the green. Don’t worry about the ball, if
you remove the sand the ball will go with it.
As a practice drill, draw
6” circles in the sand. In your correct set up blast
the sand in those circles on to the green. With just a
little practice you will be hitting it close in no time! |
